Launch at startup and run quietly
Launch at startup and silent start are two separate switches in Verge settings, and they do different jobs. What each controls, and what comes back after a boot.
Two switches, two different jobs
Launch at startup asks the system to run the program after you log in. Silent start only decides whether the main window appears then. One controls whether it runs, the other whether it shows its face.
So silent start on its own does nothing at boot, and autostart without it puts a window in front of you at every login. If you want the proxy up quietly, both boxes need ticking.
Silent does not mean idle
Silent start only suppresses the window. The core still launches, the profile still loads, and the system proxy returns to whatever state you left it in. No window does not mean no proxy.
Checking is easy: look for the tray icon, or open the window and read the running state on the home page. Honestly, loading a site that normally fails answers it faster than hunting for a window.
With silent start on, double-clicking the desktop icon looks like nothing happened. The program is already in the tray, so open the window from there.
Autostart is on but nothing starts
Suspect the login entry first. If the startup tab in Task Manager shows it as disabled, nothing you tick inside Verge will change that; you have to enable it there by hand.
Next come security suites and boot accelerators, which happily disable startup entries they do not recognise. A third case is a portable build that got moved: the entry stores an absolute path, so renaming the folder breaks it.
What comes back after a boot
The system proxy generally returns to the state it was in when you last quit, so if it was on last night it is on this morning. That also explains an evening off staying off.
TUN is different because it needs service mode. If the service is missing or held up during boot, the client starts and TUN does not: tray icon present, switch off, pages still failing. Glance at the mode first.
What is the project?
Clash Verge Rev is a Tauri-based GUI for Mihomo with profile management, system proxy, TUN mode, rule editing and WebDAV backups.
