Global hotkeys and the tray menu
Bind "toggle system proxy" and "toggle TUN" to hotkeys and you rarely need the main window again. The tray menu also does more than most people realise.
Which actions can be bound
The hotkey page in Settings lets you assign a global shortcut to each of these: show or hide the main window, toggle the system proxy, toggle TUN mode, and switch between Rule, Global and Direct modes.
Global means the shortcut fires whatever window is in front, so avoid combinations that are already taken. Ctrl+Alt plus a letter collides least; Win plus a letter is mostly reserved by the OS.
When a hotkey does nothing
Usually another program registered it first — input method editors, screenshot tools and game boosters are the usual suspects. The client shows no error in that case, it simply stays silent.
Close the suspect app and try again. Once you have confirmed a clash, pick a different combination rather than hoping a reboot fixes it. On macOS you also have to grant Accessibility permission in System Settings, or no global hotkey works at all.
On Windows the close button only hides the window — the process keeps running. To really quit, right-click the tray icon and choose Exit.
What the tray menu covers
Right-click the tray icon to toggle the system proxy and TUN, switch between Rule, Global and Direct, change the active profile, and quit. That is roughly eighty percent of daily use without opening the window.
A left click brings the main window back. If Windows has folded the icon into the overflow area, pin it in Taskbar settings — it saves time when something goes wrong.
Pair it with launch at startup
Turn on launch at startup and start minimised, and the app waits in the tray after boot instead of popping a window in your face.
Startup only launches the client; it does not guarantee the system proxy is on. The client restores whatever toggle state you left it in, so do not switch the proxy off right before shutting down.
